I don't remember the model of the rim spinner, but I sold it and got a Harbor Freight manual. The coats was real pain and the blaster jets that was suppose to set the bead just didn't work. I had to add a 1/4' plate to the post where the rim sets on the HF manual but I with some soapy water and Murphy's tire compound and the right tire spoons I get work done with a minimul of messing around. Oh yeah, I bought a Bead Cheteau air tank to set the beads and that thing Does work, just kinda spendy but worth it.

I'm weedend DIYer also so I'm always trying to get stuff done and that's when I find the flat tire and tires that need to be changed out and the buddies kids are always over changin' out tires on their girlfriennds car.

Need something better but not fancy. What model of coats would handle these easily?

Should be a lot of used ones out there due to rim clamp machines. Just want one that has plenty of power.

Posted 5/18/2012 15:35 (#2387676 - in reply to #2387666) Subject: Re: have a Coats 10-10 tire changer, need something better Faunsdale, AL Have you checked what air pressure you're feeding it with? Our 20-20 needs to be very close to the pop-off pressure of it's safety to work effectively.

I think it's around 175 psi, and if I drop a rim on it, sometimes it will unseat the pop-off and I'll have to reach in and jiggle it to get it to stop blowing. Anything less and it won't really work. That being said, I sometimes let it break the lower bead before putting the breaker on the top bead. Usually it's a rim that has rust/stopleak etc crusted on it that is really tough to break. Mounting and dismounting, sometimes have to help it around by levering with a tire iron in additon to the machine's force.

That is commonly on a stiff sidewall tire like a 10 ply front tractor or airplane tires etc. With enough tire grease and some persuasion, we usually get them on and off in good shape. I have a 7065EX that I bought used for $1500. I used a 40-40 in the past, the rim clamp will beat it hands down.

The rim clamp is much better and will break beads easier than the old style. If you want a used 40-40 try Your Next Tire in Firth Ne. They also handle new rim clamps.
